… or rather my very fist weblog.
It is winter and a new year has just started but it’s not really cold and the white snow I like so much is nowhere to be seen. At least not outside my window or on my way to work. The last couple of days my head has been full of ideas I wanted to put into action and thoughts I feared would get lost the second I thought them out. I think to some extend it was this fear that gave birth to the idea of starting a blog … you know … a weblog.
Am I a little nervous? Most certainly, yes!
Is it because I’m writing in a language that I wasn’t taught primarily by my parents (also known as mother tongue) but by a teacher or rather a hand full of teachers over the course of the years? Maybe, yes.
But for the most part it’s because this here at hand … this very blog is exposed to that big world full of potential readers and therefore critics. One of whom is a dear friend of mine. I don’t know why especially he comes to my mind right now but never mind. For the moment and a name’s sake let us call him Mr. F. You could say he’s one of the strong-willed kind of guy who’s also not shy of speaking his mind. I do like him and sometimes just a little do fear his criticism as well. I really think that is mutual though. But now to the point. I hope you all together with Mr. F. won’t be too harsh on my grammar and spelling. I think there wouldn’t be any real benefit in correcting me anyhow. Probably that’s just the last bit of unease that speaks here. You guys wouldn’t be harsh on anything here anyway I guess.
All kinds of other comments, thoughts and opinions however are hereby highly welcomed.
But why again do I opt for this language if I’m a native German speaker?
For once I think English is very good suited for a blog ’cause it’s hip!
No, seriously there might be many reasons but first there are people outside “little” Germany that might want to read what I have to say, for example my relatives in Mozambique. I think they don’t really understand German. So there is one reason. I tried to learn Portuguese but I’m nowhere near the level where I could write a letter or make small talk, let alone writing a blog. Another perk is really the extra practice I get from writing but please don’t have the feeling that you’re reading my “practicing texts”.
I had the urge to use a smiley there but I resisted, Yes! =)
I couldn’t resist that second one.
Well, while it may be suitable to use English to communicate with you, there are this few other people who also might want to read this but aren’t capable of comprehending this neat language called English. Nah, I think there are really just my parents to whom this applies, so there’s no need to write everything twice. But I tried this. I copy-pasted this into bing translator and then in google translator. Together I think they give a halfway understandable translation. And if someone really wants to know he or she or other can ask me. =)
It’s late and I have the feeling that sleep would be a nice thing right now so I stop here to return another day, maybe with my first story but more on that in the next post.
